Korea with Jeju (4-10 April 2008): Day 4 (Morning)
Monday, 7 April 2008 @ Jeju
Yongduam Rock (Dragon Head Rock) After breakfast, we headed for Yongduam Rock, the most famous landmark in Jeju. It is also known as the Dragon Head Rock.
So, does this resemble a Dragon Head?
Both of us with Dragon Head Rock behind.
Jane with the Dragon Rock signage.
Roy with the Dragon Rock signage.
With statues of Earth Deities.
Jeju Island is also known as Honeymoon Island. Many newly-weds will visit Jeju on their honeymoon. Other than the fact that it is a beautiful island, it is also believed that if the married lady (whether pregnant or not) touched the nose of the Earth Deity, will give birth to a son. If it is the husband (whether wife is pregnant or not) who touches the deity's nose, it will not be effective.
Many years ago, in terms of ratio of women to men in Jeju, there were many more women than female. But with the belief and many locals have touched the deity's nose, the ratio of men and women in Jeju now is equal.
Amazing right? So, when you visit Jeju Island, you will realise that all the Earth Deities have shiny nose. Oh yah, for those who wanna give birth to daughters instead of sons, then you can touch the inside of the Earth Deities' noses. Sounds a bit disgusting but well, that was what our tour guide said.
Seongsan Sunrise Peak We then proceeded to Seongsan Sunrise Peak, which is risen from under the sea in a volcanic eruption about 100,000 years ago.
This is it... Seongsan Sunrise Peak! We gonna be climbing up... NO JOKE man!
Both of us freezing before climbing Seongsan.
Jane before going up Seongsan.
Enjoying myself before starting our climb.

Basking in the beautiful sight.
More steps up Seongsan.
Happy Jane on the way up Seongsan.
Platform at mid of Seongsan. Actually I was quite tired already.
Steps are much steeper after the mid-platform.
I am so tired out from the climb...
Roy almost to the peak... He still looked alright, not exhausted like me!
We finally reached the peak!

Tired but happy reaching the peak. Was perspiring so took off our jackets.
Lovely from the peak of Seongsan. The climb is totally worth it!
Saw a bunny at the peak. So cute!
Took this while slowly coming down from Seongsan. Saw this view and wanna take when going up. But my dear Roy was way ahead of poor-stamina me for me to call out to him.
Jeju Woman Divers & Submarine Tour After Seongsan, we were supposed to watch Jeju Woman Divers catch marine products by diving into the sea, at dept 10 metres for about 2 minutes; without oxygen tanks. However, due to the poor weather condition, the Woman Divers were not working that day. Actually, we are all wondering why Woman Divers when our tour guide jokingly mentioned to us that in Korea, women will work whereas men just stay at home and be waited upon. Errr, not sure how true.
In any case, we then embark on our Submarine Tour where we were as far as 30 metres under the sea to have a view of the ocean floor.

This big round thingy was placed in the sea for fishes to make it their home. Korean government does this to protect their aquamarine life. Water not so clear as that was the period where fishes mate, hence making the water murky.
