Just got back home not long ago. Caught broadway musical The King & I with KThia earlier. Headed for Insomnia @ Chijmes for some drinks and rock music after that.
Further Information: The King & I is a musical by Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II, revival and winner of 8 Tony Awards, including Best Musical and Best Score is known for its well-loved songs Hello Young Lovers, I Whistle a Happy Tune, Getting to Know You and Shall We Dance? The King & I, features a stellar cast with a wealth of Broadway and theatrical experience is Directed by Bobby Garcia, Hong Kong Disneyland's first Live Entertainment Director and an award-winning multimedia director.
Its script is based on the book Anna and the King of Siam by Margaret Landon. The plot comes from the story written by Anna Leonowens, who became school teacher to the children of King Mongkut of Siam in the early 1860s. Leonowens' story was autobiographical except that its objective accuracy is questionable. In Thailand, the possession of anything related to Anna and the King of Siam or The King and I is illegal, because of what the Thai government says are historical inaccuracies about the King of Siam.
The musical opened on Broadway in 1951 and was the fourth hit out of five collaborations for the team of Rogers and Hammerstein. It ran for 1,246 performances, winning the Tony Award for Best Musical, among other awards. It spawned numerous revivals and a popular 1956 film version.
My views: Honestly, I am surprised by how good this musical is. The sets are lovely and I can really feel as if I am in Siam. The little princes and princesses are so adorable and the cast is not only professional, but funny too. This musical is really worth every cent. I can say that it is on par with Phantom of the Opera which I caught in April this year!
