Corporate Path

Your responsbility is to acquire that experience.

Ask yourself, if you have the courage to discuss with your boss regarding this intention of you wanting to be progressive say in your next performance appraisal?"

A good friend shares the above with me. Quite an insight. Was just sharing with him a new job opportunity that arises recently and if I should have a career switch. Well, perhaps it's time I move.

Mini Skirts. And more Mini Skirts!

Don't know why but suddenly think of buying mini skirts again. There was a period of time that I was crazy over mini skirts that I keep buying. Well, I still am nuts over mini skirts but at least I don't keep buying. Has decided to put a stop to my fanatic mini skirts spree when I realised that my wardrobe is bursting with more than 20 mini skirts, of which I can't even wear for work! I remember vividly my usual conversation with Mummy when I come back from shopping with mini skirt(s).

Me (Opening paper bag) : Mummy! See, my mini skirt nice anot?!

Mummy (Looking away) : Yah, nice. Very nice. Spend money again, confirm nice what.

Me (Inching mini skirt in front of Mummy) : But it's really nice you know. Somemore I do not have this color. Can match my top more easily.

Mummy (Looking at me, still not looking at my mini skirt) : Girl, please lah, how many mini skirts you have already?

Me (With a sheepish smile) : Can't remember. But I do wear them ALL you know.

Mummy (Slightly pissed off) : You know you can't wear mini skirts to work. What for waste such money?

Me (In a firm tone) : But I do wear on weekend what!

Mummy (In an exasperated tone) : Yah, but not all weekends and with the number of mini skirts you have, and still growing, I seriously doubt you have a chance to wear them more than once.

Me : Well, I will try to wear more often then but you got to admit that it's so pretty right? See the sequins and the lace? (Showing Mummy newly-bought mini skirt again)

Mummy (Finally looking at the skirt) : Yah, really quite nice....

Me (In a smug tone) : See! I told you it's nice already!

After which, I would happily hop to my room and Mummy will remind me that cos of my increasing number of clothes, she has no more hangers at home to hang and ask me to get hangers. And err, I usually just pretend I never hear that last reminder! :P Was just rummaging through my wardrobe earlier and most of my mini skirts are bought direct from Abercrombie through international shipping. Have been really lucky that all the sizes I ordered fit me perfect. Well, here are a few favourites.

Mid Autumn Festival

It is Mid-Autumn Festival today (15th Day of the 8th Month on the Lunar Calendar), an occasion widely celebrated by Chinese. Mid-Autumn day is a time when people celebrate the bountiful harvest, enjoy the getting-together with families and friends and appreciate good food and the most beautiful moon.

There are many legends related to this day. The most popular one will be how Hou Yi, a tyrannical ruler, won the elixir of immortality by shooting 9 suns out of the sky with his bow. But his wife, knowing that the people's lives would remain miserable for all eternity if Hou Yi lived forever, drank the potion. The fluids made her lighter, and she floated up into the moon. Even today, Chinese like to think of the moon as home of Chang E.

Here in Singapore, it is a tradition to light lanterns and taste mooncakes while admiring the full moon. Well, I celebrated yesterday. Was with my cousins and Willy last night, playing with candles, whistling sparklers and candles. Carried lanterns too!

Didn't have mooncakes though. Kinda sick of them. For those who are not familiar, mooncakes are a flaked pastry stuffed with a wide variety of fillings. Egg Yolk, lotus seed paste, red bean paste, and coconut are common, but walnuts, dates, and other fillings can be found as well. Most have characters for longevity or harmony inscribed on the top. Think special cakes can reach almost one foot in diameter though I have never seen any like that. Personally, I like those snowskin kind, especially with fresh durian inside. Yummy!

Well, realise that Mid-Autumn Festival has been quieter as I grow older. My little cousins, nephews and nieces enjoy themselves the most. But I guess with age, the enthusiasm is not as strong. However, I must agree that it is really a joyous affair to have mooncake and sip some Chinese Tea with your loved ones. Had wanted to visit the Chinese Garden this year but could not make time to. Hmm, perhaps next year...

Bernard. A Special Friend.

Met Bernard on Wednesday, 14 September 2005. Finally. After 10 months. He said that psychologically, a person will have recover from any type of emotion after 10 months so he chose to meet up with me only till now. I have never fault him for exiting my life though I very much would have loved if he had been with me all these months. He has always been supportive and accept me the way I am. As he mentioned, we are exact opposites. It's scary how different we are and yet we appreciate each other's strengths and condone each other's weaknesses.

We talked about a lot of things. He shared with me what he has been doing the past 10 months. From his distribution businesses (which seems to be progressing) to his friends and also his daily activities. He gained a little weight but looked much more radiant now. Think it's because he has stopped fixing bikes. I am glad. Yes, I know he loves bikes but it is taking a toil on his health doing all the menial work. Am relieved to hear that he is at least using his mind now than his hands. Makes a lot of difference. Sure hope his health gets better with each day. As usual, he is still putting himself in extreme physical conditions so as to stretch himself further. He had not slept for 2 days when I met him. It was crazy. Yet, he wanted it. Sighz.

Realised that I missed talking to him and having him advising me and giving me opinions. I value his advices and cherish his views. As usual, he is sweet, telling me that he still cares for me and did not mean to exit my life without a word. Somehow, I believe him. Well, no matter what, he is still a special friend. Because I know...

Wala Wala

Just got home. Was supposed to go out with Peter but he fell sick. Having fever. So sad. Thank God Keith reponded when I sms-ed him. Was telling him I feel like partying so he was asking me to join him at Wala Wala and to eat there.

Well, beeen to Wala Wala a few times but don't exactly like it cos it seems like a rather poser place. Nonetheless, Keith was saying otherwise and mentioning that Wala had a really good band. And so I went. Well, happens that his friends are all bloggers. Don't know their blogs though. Apparently, they are pretty avid bloggers. Anyway, they are pretty nice people. Felt quite comfortable with them. Got to also admit that the band is quite good. Will probably check out Wala in future instead of Insomnia when I am craving for some rock band. Was thinking of dancing though. Didn't get a chance to.

Drank a few glasses and left about 1am. Went to Serangoon Garden for tea before Keith sent me home. Really got to thank him for spending time with me, especially when it's so late already.

Well, to sum it, Wala has a pretty goood crowd. Local. I like it. Don't really like Caucasians. Don't ask me why. I just don't like the way they tried to make advances at me when I dance, especially at Insomnia. Wala is much better than Insomnia. Will probably check it out more often when I wanna chill, not much of a dancing place though.

Keith and his friends are practically loyal patrons. Think they go quite a few times a week. Well, as long as they are happy. Don't know them too well so can't say much but at least they are friendly enough. Didn't see any cute guys there though. Perhaps my expectation too high or I am probably just too stoned to notice any guy. Blur Jane!

Crime in Singapore

Horror find in Orchard Road

• Woman's severed head, arms, legs in bag
• Other parts found at MacRitchie Reservoir

FIRST, a cleaner rang the police about a blue and red oblong sports bag left unattended at a pavement near Orchard MRT station.

In it were three plastic bags containing the severed head of a woman with long black hair, her arms and hands, and her legs and feet.

That was about 1.45pm.

Then, a civil servant rang the police about a black trolley bag left unattended along a footpath in MacRitchie Reservoir.

In it was the rest of her body - in her undergarments.

That was about 6.10pm.

Yesterday's events seemed like a replay of the Kallang River body parts murder, when Chinese national Liu Hong Mei, 22, was found in pieces along the river bank on June 16.

After her upper torso and lower torso were recovered, her head and calves were found in bags at the Tuas incinerator plant two days later. Her feet were never recovered. The alleged killer, her supervisor Leong Siew Chor, 50, is now awaiting trial for murder.

In yesterday's case, it is understood that the dead woman, a young Asian, was only slightly decomposed, indicating that she was killed not more than two days ago.

Cleaner Maria Yee Marutham, 41, who came across the sports bag lying at a corner of the mosaic mural wall near the MRT station's exit, thought it contained a mannequin at first.

She saw black hair when she unzipped the bag - and then she saw a face. That was when she dropped the bag and sounded the alarm to her co-workers. 'I saw part of a face. I was very, very scared,' she said.

The head was in a red plastic bag, while the arms and legs were in two black trash bags.

The corner is popular with lovers at night as it is dimly lit. Youths with skateboards also gather there.

At the scene, police were tight-lipped about investigations, giving no details about the woman other than that she had long black hair.

A crowd started growing outside the police cordon as word of the find spread. The name Liu Hong Mei could be heard as the chatter grew. Likewise, there were shocked exclamations that so grisly a find surfaced in so public a place.

Held at bay by riot police, the crowd watched as a forensic team pored over what was in the bag.

Officers were seen taking away video tapes, believed to be footage from the close-circuit TV cameras in the Orchard MRT station.

By 6.30 pm, there was no sign at all that anything untoward had happened there. The Special Investigation Section police team had moved - to MacRitchie Reservoir.

Civil servant Alvin Lim Seng Leong, 40, had just been dropped off by his colleagues at the reservoir carpark. While they went jogging, he made his way to the Lornie Road bus stop to go home to Ang Mo Kio.

Along the footpath, which cuts in front of the reservoir canteen, he saw the bag. He had heard about the grisly Orchard Road find on the radio earlier, and something told him this was no ordinary bag.

Said Mr Lim: 'I felt very uneasy. I had a gut feel
it was linked to the other body parts.'

Frightened, he went back to look for his colleagues. They told the MacRitchie Reservoir canteen operator, who called the police.

A trembling Mr Lim told reporters: 'We did not dare open the luggage. I never expected to be the one to find the missing part.'

Police are now trying to establish the identity of the victim. Anyone with information should call 1800-255-0000.

Just read this article on Straits Times, totally horrified. I mean, how can anyone be so sick as to dismembered another person. The thought of it makes me nauseous. I was already rather appalled by the Kallang River case and now this. It's absolutely revolting. While reading this article, the MRT adverts suddenly came to my mind. I still remember that it is something like 'If you see anything suspicious, report it.' Am utterly grossed out. To think we have been cautioned numerously only to meet with such scenerio, and such a horrible one. Really wonder about criminal instints of lunatics in Singapore...

Marriage

Just attended a wedding dinner on Monday at Hilton Singapore. Is the wedding of a secondary school classmate, Hwee Shi. Remember her as this tall bright girl in class who was forever laughing. Am not that close to her but she invited everyone in class and so I went. Valerie, Meiqing and Qiumei went too. The four of us have always been a clique. Anyway, was nice meeting the rest of the ex-classmates after so long. Think I have not met some of them since secondary school. Hmm, that will be about 8 years. Gosh! Well, everyone has changed, in one way or another. But then again, a span of 8 years, from teenagehood to adulthood, there must be a serious problem if there is no change! Was a really pleasant evening, all thanks to Hwee Shi's invitation.

Received Annie's Wedding Invitation a few days ago. Her BIG Day is on 1 October 2005. It's a Saturday. Irene is invited too and she just sms-ed me on the wedding table number assigned. Expectedly, will be on the same table as Irene. Great! Annie looks so blissed on her wedding photos and I am really glad she can finally settle down with the man who is going to take care of her for the rest of her life. Seems like many of my friends are getting married. But no, I don't feel pressured to. In fact, I feel that getting married for my age is way too young. I know many beg to differ. I guess it all depends on individuals. Wondering whose wedding bells I will hear next.

Meiqing was just saying that it is better to marry early else in future after giving birth, the age difference between parent and child will be too great and may have big generation gap. In my opinion, it all boils down to parental upbringing and how close the parent-child bond is. My uncle's age different with his son is about 36 years and they are really close. Not much of a generation gap from what I see. Actually, if a couple does truly understand each other well enough, able to accept the flaws and overlook the mistakes, early marriage may not be a bad thing. Afterall, during our Grandparents' times, many married young and still going strong till today. It will be so sweet to have someone walking side by side with you till the end of time...
