Saturday, May 13, 2006 We knew one another on mIRC about 7 years ago and all of us were active chatters back then. Today, most of us don't even have the mIRC program anymore. During those days, we were meeting up practically every weekend. Be it beach volleyball sessions at Sunset Bay, ice-skating at Jurong, movies and coffee in town, or even the late night clubbing sessions, it was so much fun then. I can still remember how hard we partied every Wednesday at Zouk and every Saturday at Ridleys or Devil's Bar. We have lent each other a shoulder to cry on when we fell out of love and held one another when we were puking our guts out after drinking so much to drown our sadness. We drank. We cried. We laughed. We hugged. I have never imagined that such bond or friendship can be built with people I know through virtual world. And I got to admit that I have been very fortunate to know them all and I do hope they share the same sentiments. Of course, the group used to be bigger at about 20 of us and have shrunk to less than 15. Nonetheless, all have been great pals and I can fully understand that some may have other commitments and are not able to stay in touch. Here's a little tribute to you all! Alan a.k.a. chimp We all knew Alan as chimp and just like his nickname, he is so active. Basketball is like his life and since I knew him, he has been practically breathing basketball. Both during JC and uni years. A really loyal friend, Alan treats all his friends equally friend. He is also quite accomodating and not fussy about things. And he was the one who willing allowed us to have a BBQ session at his house during one Christmas. Simple guy with a big heart and seems to be doing quite well career wise. Alan is now in a big logistic company and has been given opportunity to participate in certain big projects. Though the long distance relationship is a bit tough for him and his gf, am sure he will overcome. All the best Alan! Alvin a.k.a. baracuda We call Alvin 'bara', short for baracuda, his nickname on mIRC then. Alvin intially striked me as not-so-friendly but when you got to know him better, he is actually damn crappy. Smart too! Most importantly, he is a wonderful friend. Will always be around to lend you a listening ear and also company. The only thing is that Alvin doesn't really call cos he will always think everyone is so busy. However, when we call him out for any outing, he will never cease to turn up. Yes, he is such a pal. He has been a happier person since he started taking his Mass Comm studies and has just graduated recently. Hope you find a job you like soon Alvin! Oh, I miss out something... Alvin is a real good drinker! HO HO HO! And yes, we all still remember how kind Alvin is to let us drink and party at his dad's place in Ang Mo Kio on a few occasions! Ashley My dancing and drinking kaki during the old Zouk days. We took care of each other whenever any of us was drunk. This vivacious babe has matured much and does not party anymore. A determined girl who is now happily engaged to Junye. Wedding bells are ringing! Calvin a.k.a. wOOf wOOf is a doctor now and a happy-go-lucky guy! He will be bonded to the hospital for another 5 years and I am sure he is quite glad that his 6 years course is finally over. Calvin is really funny and both him and Alvin, when together, make me laugh. Also very sporting, Calvin will always join us whenever he can, though he was really busy back then with his studies. He studies hard and plays equally hard. Am sure his parents is really proud of him! And I am definitely glad to have known him. Oh well, at least I know who to approach for Medical Certicate in future! Haha! Ivan a.k.a. vampire Ivan is older than all of us and always like a big brother to us. He is always punctual and gives very constructive comments. He makes it a point to turn up at all our gatherings and is not fussy about where we go. Knew Ivan when he was not driving and now he has been driving for a few years. A much better driver now too. Most importantly, he joins in the fun with us and never complain we are childish. I remember that he used to play lotsa online games. Not sure if he does now. But in any case, he is finally on my MSN so can talk to him more now! Junye a.k.a. Mercury When I first knew Junye, he was like forever partying. It was either clubbing or soccer for him. He was always late then and would take a cab in every outing. He was also very into electronic gadgets! Now, Junye is happily engaged to Ashley and doesn't even party more. Quite healthy lifestyle either working or spending time with Ashley. Oh yah, and exercising once a week too. Junye also looks much happier. Must be all thanks to Ashley. Really happy for this couple. Leonard a.k.a. slayed Leo is my buddy but this buddy always forgets about me. Got attached some months ago and I am the last to know. HUMPH! We used to hang out pretty often, especially during his NS years. Generally, Leo is quite good company and conversationalist. The only problem is that he is always late. But during yesterday gathering, he is the first to reach Marche. I am so proud of him. He has certainly changed for the better. Oh yah, and definitely more matured now. Not that he was childish before but more of idealistic. Definitely much better now. Perhaps having a gf changed him? And till today, I still treat him as a great buddy to crap with. Hope that he can graduate this semester. Praying hard for him! Yanling a.k.a. melody This dainty girl here is a real pal to me. Since I got to know her, we shopped, we partied and we attended the same uni. Skipping lectures, rushing through tutorial notes and providing support for each other. She is always there to listen to me and I have deeply appreciated it. Now working in CitiBank, am so glad she is finally stable with a career and a nice boyfriend. Though we are all busy with our work and commitments, we will always make time for each other. And one thing I know, is that she will always be there to listen to my rantings or to offer me valuable feedback. Thanks dearie! A few others who could not make it or we would not reach them are: Gerald a.k.a. tangent This guy here is really into the World of Warcraft. Got to know him when he was in NUS and now he is working in Creative. Very nice of him to offer to help me buy any creative product at staff price! Huimin a.k.a. dodo Happening girl here and really active. She is on her 3-days diving trip so can't meet up with us. :) Ronghua a.k.a. capercat She is my junior in AJC and is not really close to the #promises people. Nonetheless, I do chat with her whenever I am online. Trying to fix up a date to meet up though! Shuzhuang a.k.a. elstar This girl here is super busy. Should be in her final year at SMU now and I have 2 of her birthday presents sitting in my cupboard. And yes, that's how long I have not met her! Zhihao a.k.a. hao Zhihao is like a brother to me and still very active on mIRC. He is working on some science research institute. And hmm, ok, I admit that I was so busy that I forgot to inform him about our outing. He usually will try to make it for our outing. Nonetheless, we still keep in touch.
