Weather Changes

I am down with sore throat and cough, probably due to the adverse weather changes of late. The sun is blazing one moment and dark clouds loom the next moment. I lost count on the numerous times when I got caught in a sudden downpour. Visited the doctor yesterday morning and this evening, but my throat is still itching badly and my cough continues. It is so bad that I can almost feel that my lungs have been coughed out!

Last 2 weeks have been crazy rushing through all the training sessions and preparing for the salesman guides. It is finally May tomorrow and I feel so relieved. There will be 2 new Marketing colleagues and 2 new Underwriting colleagues coming in on Monday. Am sure it will be interesting and hopefully with them around, all of us can lighten at least a little of our work load. We are all over-stretched. Even an elastic band will snap when reached its maximum elasticity. Sighz!

Anyway, it's Labour Day tomorrow, a public holiday, so I can relax a while then back to office on Tuesday to start thinking about May production figures. Now, I will go off to dreamland first!

GREASE – it’s still the word!

Finally got the tickets to GREASE and just can't wait to jive to this '50's Rock 'n' Roll musical! I will be going with Jezlyn aka snowapple on Saturday, 27 May 2006, 8pm. Actually have not seen Jezlyn for a while and this is indeed a good chance to catch up.

We got the Premier Tickets which come with pre-show cocktail reception with complimentary selection of drinks and also hot and cold gourmet finger food. What's more important is the good seats which will guarantee a great view. Am really looking forward to it. Thanks to my cousin who got the tickets for me at a 20% discount!

Facing Challenges

Exhausted.

5 missed calls in the morning from the new administrator and I immediately scrambled down to Ubi to handle her problems. It doesn't help that I got to postpone my 11.30am training because of this. Lunch was quick as I got to hurry back office to prepare materials for the postponed 3.30pm session, which to my utmost surprise, lasted 2 long hours. I could literally feel the seconds ticking by as my anxiety grew.

Training sessions usually do not last more than an hour and I had to rush to Alexandra after that for 2 separate meetings consecutively. The surge of haste today was so unexpected and to add to my urgency, I only got to know at 6.30pm that I have 2 training sessions tomorrow morning!

I have no notes. No presentation slides. No nothing. But I can't say no to tomorrow's sessions. Simply because this is my only chance to brief the sales teams before launching the 2 new initiatives. The next chance I have with them will probably be 2 weeks time and by then it will be too late.

I was a little upset when my manager actually told me off for setting up these 2 training sessions at the eleventh hour. No one enjoys last minute rush and neither do I. It is not very fair of him to say that I should not have agreed to such rushed sessions, especially when he knows that this is the only chance I have. Ideally, we all want things to please our flow but unfortunately, life isn't always a bed of roses. We got to adapt when situations change. Yes, I do know that I am stretching myself really far by adhering to such last minute arrangement. However, if this is a requirement for me to ensure a successful launch, I am willing to go through this crazy realm. If I have to do it, I will. Challenges are never easy and I will like to face challenges outright than to avoid them.

Anyway, as I was pressing for time, I had to forgo swimming today to come up with tomorrow's training materials. Finally did up the slides at about 11pm and headed straight home. I was too weary to decide how I wish to present tomorrow. But I know, that after a good sleep, I will be all fresh in the morning to face new turbulences again. Persistency is the key. I will continue to strive for the best in whatever I do. This is a promise to myself and my greatest challenge is to constantly give my best shot. And yes, I gonna face new challenges everyday on a bright note!

Safari Inspired Fashion

I have been really intrigued by the "safari girl" look of late. Both fun and stylish, it sorta brings out one's wild side and seemingly brings us back to the jungles. The Out of Africa feel!

With a nostalgic nod to old-school elegance, the safari theme hits town with chic sporty dressing in a sophisticated savannah pallet of understated neutrals. Colours include Khaki, Army Green and occasionally Black. The safari look mixes last spring’s bohemian trend with winter’s millitary theme and crusades one back to the wilderness.

Totally inspired by the Safari Fashion, I actually got myself a Linen Safari Shirtdress two months ago and a few days ago, bought a Safari Millitary Dress which totally brings out the safari touch. I think they are totally gorgeous but no, did not scan any of the photos up. Nonetheless, saw some really chic safari dresses online and thought I should share.

Born out of hot and humid climates, safari fashion trend not only looks fantastic but is brilliantly practical for tropical countries like Singapore. Of course, this look can be funked up with a cowboy hat or a big sun brimmed hat, which perhaps may not be so well-received locally. Nonetheless, it can be fun I may just consider getting a cowboy hat. Meanwhile, a classic pair of aviator sunglasses and a pair of leather wedges will indeed spice up the look much more! Safari fashion, here I come~

Childhood Years

Was just listening to 外婆的澎湖湾 , a chinese song from my childhood years and the familiarity sinks in. There are so many wonderful memories from those early years and how I miss those times.

The years when I scrambled around looking for grasshoppers to keep in those matchboxes.

The tears I shed when my cousins pushed me and refused to let me catch dragonflies with them simply because I am a girl.

The continuous laughter we all shared while playing hop scotch.

The endless falls we had while plucking rambutans and coconuts from the ever-so-tall trees.

The painful caning we all sufferred after disobeying Grandpa to go down to the swamps despite his warnings.

The zinc-roofed house. The wood shed where we kept our bicycles. The heavy firewood with the big charred stove. The lanterns we made using canes and tracing paper during Mid-Autumn Festival. The mini BBQ sessions we kids had while the adults indulged in their mahjong sessions.

There are so many carefree, wonderful memories etched in my mind and this just reminds me that I am a grown up girl now. No more the frail playful girl then which Mummy got to look after. Now, I will be looking after Mummy instead. :)

Good Friday indeed

It is indeed a Good Friday for me. Feel so happy and excited. Have not felt like this for a while. All thanks to Phyllis, Shirley and Florence for making my day! Anyway I met up with them for High Tea at Crystal Jade Kitchen at Ngee Ann City. It was to celebrate Phyllis' birthday which was on 13 April 2006 and a belated birthday for me. We ate so much Dim Sum and were all so full! After High Tea, we headed for our "Photo-Stickers Taking" Session. And boy, was it fun!

Hers is white and mine is a grey Safari Dress. Oh yah, they got me Wisma Atria Vouchers cos I mentioned that I wanna get a dress from Southaven. This is my second dress from there in 3 weeks. And I totally adore the Safari Dress I got today. Am half contemplating to get a cowboy hat to match the dress. Hehe! Yah, I know I should stop rattling but I am just so excited over my dress. Will start wearing when I got it washed. Yipeeee!

On Rashes & my Hair

Woke up this morning with rashes all over my body. Mummy claimed that it is "Feng Mo" but in any case, it is some form of skin allergy. I was itching all over and I tried so hard not to scratch it. Fortunately, my face is alright, just mainly my limbs, neck and arms. Anyway, I had no choice but to call my manager to inform of my condition and some follow up that he got to help me. If not for the itch, I would have gone back to office to clear some work. Anyway doctor wanted to give me 2 days Medical Leave but I insisted on 1 day, so tomorrow I will be back to office.

Workers are tearing down our office partition on Saturday for some re-shufflement of seating arrangement and I have to pack all my things by tomorrow. *groans* I mean, it is not like I have many things since I am only with the company for 4 months but the thought of packing everything sorta dreads me. It doesn't help too that I am on Medical Leave today, which means I have lotsa backlog to clear tomorrow! Argh....

I have been sleeping a lot today. The doctor gave me an injection to control my condition and some medication for itch and for allergy. The former will cause drowsiness and true enough, after seeing the doctor, I went to grab some food and I became so sleepy! I conked out the moment I got home and slept from 12pm to 5pm. Haha. Yes, I know I am such a pig! Oink~

When I regained conscious, I headed for my hair salon to collect the haircare products I purchased last week. Tom trimmed my fringe and did a hairwash for me at the same time. He was also mentioning to me about this new machine which just came in from Japan which perms really nice curls and very lasting. Almost like my Japanese Perm and more lasting curls. And of course, he casually reminded that I can try it next month. Well, I just did my perm a month ago and the curls are wearing off. But to be fair, Tom did mention that Japanese Perm only last about 1 to 3 months. Hmm, I had intention to perm again after 3 months. If I perm next month, it will only be after 2 months! And naturally, it means spending more money! Sobz....

I am also not sure what got into me but I have been spending a lot on my hair. Probably because I had straight hair all my life and I find it so boring that I can't be bothered to maintain it. Now is different. With the perm, I got to ensure that my hair does not become dry or damage and since I am swimming regularly now, I do wanna take care too. Speaking of swimming, I swam 20 laps on Monday and 25 laps yesterday. Quite happy with it. Will try to do some crunches tomorrow morning!

Alright, back to my hair, well, I guess I will see how my hair is like next month and if need be, I will perm again. I know it's not Tom's fault that my curls do not last. I did ask around and researched quite a bit on this and realised that perm does not really last long if it's a first time perm or if you have super straight hair. Well, before my perm which is also my first, I had straight hair all my life, hence I do understand why my hair curls do not last long after the perm. However, I am sure that after the next perm, will last longer cos my hair will not be so anti-curls anymore.

I have had friends who told me that I am wasting money by going for a perm which does not last long. Well, I had a choice to do ceramic or digital perms which will last longer, but I did not want to. Simply because ceramic or digital perms are more damaging for the hair. Moreover, the curls from Japanese Perm are more wavy and natural and yes, I do want the natural look. In any case, though they may say it's a waste of money, what matters is that I am loving my hair! Healthy permed hair. Unlike some damaged curly fried hair!

My fitness regiment

I am so proud of myself... cos I just did 20 crunches! Oh well, I know it's not a lot but hey, it's a good start. And to show how serious I am, I will be going swimming with my colleague, Charmaine, after work.

Speaking of Charmaine, think I have been seeing her everyday, not just in office but after work. Haha! We went Devils Bar on Wednesday after work and we met at Double O last night with our own friends. Work has not been that easy and I am glad to have her around. Basically, we listen to each other's complaints and rantings, at the same time helping each other in our job scope.

Anyway, before I digress too much, yes, I gonna start my fitness regiment. Must go swim and gym at least once a week else I will really be wasting money! DISCIPLINE is the word. Was just chatting with a friend on MSN and he insisted that I would just go for a week or month and stopped. He even challenged me to prove him wrong. Well, I will definitely prove him wrong! HuMph!

Actually I gained about 4kg recently and really need to shed off those kilos before I become too bulky to fit into all my clothes. Yes yes, I shall be as disciplined as possible!

Happy Birthday Qiumei~

Met up with Qiumei, Meiqing and Valerie on Sunday. To celebrate Qiumei's birthday. We went to this nice cosy restaurant called Mariners' Corner Seafood & Steak Restaurant, at Maritime House. Thumbs up for the service there and I totally love the lobster set that Valerie recommended. It was yummy with the chicken soup with garlic bread, the free-flowing salad bar, my main lobster plus sirloin steak course and ending with tea and brownie! It was quite a feast. We wanted to have wine but were all too bloated for anything else after the feast.
